From Africa with Love, a Valentine's Day Pop-up Shop Event
From Africa with Love is an inclusive retail and cultural pop-up event designed for you to show your love for African culture, shop for African art and fashion, and enjoy special events and programs on Saturday February, 10!
Amooti is an online market place that empowers African artisans by expanding their market to customers in the US interested in unique African art and fashion all while telling the story of the artisans who produce handmade products.
Zone 3 is a Harvard-sparked initiative to further activate and energize Western Ave. in Allston with creative programs, events, and retail.
Come shop the Amooti Vendor Market, featuring a range of independent artisans. Join us for a full day of fun Valentine’s activities that will titillate the senses and give you a flavor of African culture.
Full Schedule of Saturday’s Events:
11:00 am: Amooti Vendor Market opens up to public
12:00 pm: Yoga for Inclusion
Join Melissa Alexis from Cultural Fab, for a 40 min yoga session focused on using movement to promote inclusion, diversity and staying connected with one another.
12:30 pm: African Treats & Snacks
Our friends at Suya joint will be share some tastes of African cuisine throughout the afternoon
2:00 pm: African Poetry & Love Stories
A special session dedicated to love poems and other literary works written by African authors, poets, and artists.
4:00 pm: African blend Coffee with Erik
Taste and enjoy a cold brew coffee conversation break with Erik Modhal from the bean trust community and learn about the richest flavors from Africa!
5:00 pm: Multicultural, Love-Themed Painting Experience
Andrew Semanda, a popular paint artist will lead a fun and short multicultural, love-themed, and hand-on painting project on Bark cloth. Singles, friends, and couples welcome!
Senga Secrets: African Romance Secrets & Advice
In African culture a “Senga” is a wise, elder aunt who offers advice to couples on romance and more. Join Amooti’s Senga for a fun and anonymous discussion of traditional African romantic secrets and advice throughout the day!
6:00pm: African Stylist
Fashion Designer, Joe Malaika will give us short tutorials on how to merge african fashion with western fashion. Listen to these stories and anecdotes about African gift giving traditions.
7:00pm: Three cheers with the Mocks!
Wrap your day with your loved ones by enjoying complimentary Mocks from Bougie Bartenders!
Refreshments will be available during evening events for you to enjoy while immersing yourself into African culture, art, and tradition. It will be a special Valentine's, the African way!
